Tai Chi Beginners
FREE TASTER SESSIONS
are held each September and at other times new students are welcome to sample their first lesson free of charge.
In September each year, the classes are dedicated to new beginners, but it is not necessary to wait until September as newcomers are very welcome to join any of the groups at any time.
We all start with our individual level of ability and people progress at very different rates, so a beginners' only class is of limited value, except that some people may feel more comfortable with other beginners around.
Each established group has practitioners of varying levels of skill and experience and everyone works at their own level and pace. As a beginner you can expect to progress more quickly in a mixed ability group as you will benefit from the experience of those around you.
The foundation exercises of 'Silk Reeling' are easy to learn and most of the benefits can be achieved by practice and refinement of these techniques.
The 19 Form, a sequence of movements, was devised by Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang, as an introductory form, whilst retaining many of the important elements to develop one's skill. To learn the sequences can be an interesting and enjoyable challenge. We focus on small sections each week to make it easier to learn and there are also resources available to assist if you wish. However, it is more important to develop the correct way of moving and learning the sequences falls into place as the class progresses.
